Creator: Baragaon Weaves
The weavers in the village of Baragaon were in huge distress, work was irregular and they were struggling to make a livelihood. The weavers were abandoning the craft and shifting to nearby towns/ cities to look for unskilled jobs. This ignited a fire in Jamal Kidwai, who founded ‘Baragaon Weaves’ in 2017. “Their situation made us want to do something creative and revive their dignified source of income,” says Jamal. Hence, Baragaon weaves helps these weavers by coming up with unique designs made by Shreya Bhattacharya, the sales of which reinstates their confidence in their craft. Baragaon weaves started off in the quaint little village of Baragaon located in the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, around 40 km east of the state capital, Lucknow, where there is nothing particularly unique about the village except for the regular "khat-khat" music of the looms in every other household. Now, team Baragaon is simply a group of determined individuals who are set on the goal of sustaining the craft of the distressed weavers of the village.
